My Background
I was fortunate to be deeply involved in the missile and space business from its beginning (just after WW2) until I retired , some 30 years later. 20 years of that was spent heading the Rocketdyne Division of Rockwell International’s Product Development Departments doing advanced technology designs, building and testing the hardware. Our first big win was the rocket engine development for the Army’s Redstone Ballistic Missile / Explorer Satellite. Next we won the rocket engines program for the Air Force’s Atlas & Thor Ballistic Missile Programs as well as the Army’s Jupiter Ballistic Missile. With the Formation of NASA & its priority on space, our wins continued for developments of all the Lunar Programs large booster engines that were used to get the Apollo Spacecraft to the moon. In addition we won a program for the development of the moon take off rocket motors (to get them back).

As Vice President of Product Development & Marketing, my responsibility was to develop new state of the art hardware sufficiently advanced to win the programs we went after. My annual budget for new developments usually ran from $50 to $100 Million in today’s dollars. Our objectives were to stay at least one step ahead of the customer’s needs and we were able to do that. Our other objective was to have 85% market share and we met that. We took our division from about 100 people in the 40’s to 22,500 people in the mid 60,s with over 3,000 people in Engineering and over 500 people in my Product Development and Marketing Departments. I was also the propulsion consultant for the U.S. Air Force’s Scientific Advisory Board.

My next 10 years included 5 years at Rockwell Corporate as Executive Director of Business Development for 2 of the 4 Operations of Rockwell. The combined sales of these 2 Operations was 4 Billion in then year dollars.

My last position at Rockwell’s Seal Beach Facility as it Executive Director .The Division was developing the GPS satellite programs, Surveillance , Star War, Space /Space Station programs and other.
